Of course. I am talking about those pills offered by Morpheus to Neo in ‘The Matrix‘ movie. Isn’t a huge coincidence that Internet Explorer is ‘Blue’ and Firefox is ‘Red’?

Now, before you telling me ‘Dude, what the heck are you talking about?’. Imagine that we as Web Developers/Programmers become Neo. Then imagine that Natural laws such as gravity, electricity and magnetism are the W3C definition for HTML, CSS and XHTML.

OK, back to the movie. If Neo chooses the Red Pill, he will wake up from his ‘artificial life’ and life in the real world. He will suffer, but he will know the real world. But if Neo chooses the Blue Pill, he will carry on in his ‘artificial life’. He might never meet the hardship of the real world.

So the premise here are ‘Red Pill’ will bring you to real life. To get something, you must follow the natural laws (e.g. W3C’s HTML Definition). But ‘Blue Pill’ will make your life easier as you don’t need to always follow the natural laws (e.g. W3C’s HTML definition) yet you will still get the same thing.

For example, to get a tooltip for your images, Internet Explorer will only need the ALT attribute in your image. But Firefox will not display the tooltip if you use ALT attribute. Because according to the natural laws (i.e. W3C’s HTML Definition), ALT is to be displayed when the Image is not available. To have the tooltip, W3C’s rules stated that you must use the TITLE attribute in your images.

So throw away your ‘Blue Pill’ and take the ‘Red Pill’. As I said, you might suffer a little bit, but you will see the real world. =)

Firefox, ALT Tags, and Tooltips

One thing that always accompany me is my PDA. It’s an Ipaq RX3715 PDA. It has been accompanied me for 1 year plus. I bought the PDA from other person for $350 through HardwareZone.com. So far it has served me well. Hopefully it will continue to do so.

One of the recent activities that I take interest on is reading classic literatures. I found out that this habit is the best way to kill time when I commute using MRT from my home to my workplace in the morning. At least this way I can keep the reading habit alive and make the commuting time efficient. It also prevent me from wasting the time when I queueing for something. So yes, it is a life-saver :).

I used to read those e-books in Microsoft Reader Format (I’ve read those classics such as Captain Blood, The Call of the Wild, Treasure Island, A Study in Scarlet, Great Expectations, The Prince, The Secret Garden in this format). When I recently rediscover the Project Gutenberg, I was really excited with the number of e-book collections available for download.

The best way to read the e-books from project Gutenberg is to install Vade-Mecum, a plucker document reader for Pocket PC.

So far I have downloaded all Mark Twain‘s books. And currently immersed with Tom Sawyer’s adventures.

Whoa.. I’ve been neglecting this blog for a month.

The main reason would the recent GST (Gross ServiceGoods and Services Tax) hike from 5% to 7% which required some works need to be done on the system. The work totally absorbed all my life energy and my will to live (haha.. you know I’m exaggerating :)).

We also have moved into the new HDB flat. The proper term would be shifting, since we moved to the unit in the same block, same floor, but the opposite corner. Hopefully the new space will inspire me better in blogging (which is not happen yet).

Lastly, thanks to all RSS subscribers and readers which still frequently patronize this blog although no updates, not even replies to the comments. I do feel bad for not replying the comments.
